Synestesi

" In a nutshell, it's a neurological phenomena where two of your senses are crossed; e.g. I see sound. That would be Color Synesthesia.

For me, literally everything triggers it. It didn't use to be that way, but once I honed my perfect pitch until I can tune people's speaking voices, it started happening that way. It's pretty easy to deal with most of the time, but sometimes (like at lunch in high school, or at dances) I have to wear earplugs to at least cut down on the sensory overload. It's really beautiful, though.

I also learned to use my gift pretty recently. I learned to kind of project this "screen" over the piano or cello I was playing, and I could color code the strings and the places I needed to place my fingers to create certain tones, with higher notes being outlined in brighter and brighter hues, while lower ones were darker. It's pretty trippy. I gather that it's like being on LSD."

"I'd like to visit, but I'm not sure I'd want to live there. At least not the version my wife has. She has it full-spectrum. Everything she sees has an associated taste, smell, feel, and sound, everything she smells has an associated color, taste, feel, and sound, etc. With strong sensory inputs, the echoes can have echoes, again, in full spectrum. Often, the various overtones are not pleasant, and only rarely do they mesh well, which is not too surprising when a single strong input can come with twenty-five or more supporting effects. Eating something even moderately complex starts with multiple components in all five senses. It makes much more than an aesthetic difference what plate her food is served on. She is a very picky eater because of it, which is fairly reasonable when the sight of the smell of certain foods feel like needles poking into her skin. I'll try to remember to tell her about this thread when she gets home so she can post herself, but it's not all rainbows and roses."

"I've mentioned at times I'm a writer. what doesn't come up often is that In my head I see my works. Not in the watching a movie inside my head sense, though I do that too.

No, its, like a fractal, or aurora borealis this flowing abstract thing in my head, weaving and warping as my plot twists, splitting off and braiding together. Its a thing I can follow, matching the tone and structure to its gyres, can tell a section is wrong because the shape is off, the wrong colour. Can feel gaps where something is missing like I could the hole left by an absent jigsaw piece."
